My friend has asked me some guidance on how to level a patch of meadow measuring going on for 6x6ft. It dips about 2". Can he put soil staight onto the grass, level and after seed? Thanks. x
why not verbs up the grass....fill within the "dip" with soil compress and replace sod.....I did.....I go below root level to sort the trauma less on the grass.......worked great....

Sure he can level it by accumulation loose dirt to the existing yard. Probably he will enjoy to over fill it a bit because as the turf underneath dies and breaks down, it will settle a bit.

Seed it beside a starter seed recommended for your nouns, here in the midwest US, that usually contains some rye to get hold of things going and a blend of fescue, blue grass etc. Rake it in really lightly, hose down it and cover it with a lighting layer of straw.

Keep it moist next to daily street lamp waterings for a couple of weeks and you will have grass contained by no time.

This is best done in spring or fall over when temps are cooler and rain more credible.

Another way to do this would be beside sod and a little bit of loose dirt to barb things in and a small amount of core. If you buy the sod at the sod farm it's pretty probable, especially for such a small area. Spread a section of dirt and lay the sod on it and water it contained by thoroughly, roll it or walk it to bring good contact and again, save it wet.

Answers:    Why not return with a sod cutter to remove the current turf, build up the low spot, then replace the turf and maintain watered to help the turf re-root. That will destroy the seeding subdivision.
