It often grows on trees along WITH moss, so the moss appears to shine in the misty. In the American south, the fungi are commonly called "Foxfire" and are the subject of heaps myths and legends. There's also a series of books about those living surrounded by the Appalachian mountains that are named "Foxfire" after the fungi.
