I have access to pond algae. I be wondering if that would be ok to put into the compost pile, or does it not break down like other green plants?

It might event a little what species, but algae is considered one of the best ways for converting carbon dioxide into biomass.
I have big problems with algae surrounded by my pond last year so I scooped it out and lately buried a bunch in my garden. I tilled the soil this year and very soon my potato's and melons are growing great! No problems here and I did not even compost it.
