Is there a net I can put over my sunflowers to protect the seed from being pecked at and eaten? Like something I can put over the herald so birds and stuff can't get to the seeds? I want to acquire the seeds but last year the birds attacked my poor flowers!
My mom would hold strips of aluminum foil...apparently the birds think it's fire and will stay away. You could probably use mosquito netting but there is a special plastic eyeshade mesh flower cover available at Wal-mart or Home Depot. Check the garden section. this sounds ridiculous but it does actually work
a spine net
you kntow the kind ladies wear when they hold curlers in? they are soft enough not to dmage the flowers and can only just be seen
An easy and acceptable method is to tie a piece of cheesecloth or fine nylon or plastic mesh around the ripening seedhead when the hindmost portion of the head begins to turn brown. This will prevent the birds from harvest the seed before you do.

See source for more info
sure...go to your garden store and get a plastic network for probably under $10!

You can get a fine mesh eyeshade at any garden store for portecting plants I don't know, I had that problem last year and it made me so silly.
Answers:    ya..at hand is a net available..probably u should check it in some plant nurseries or some textile shop and select a soft lattice which can hang freely not to damage the flowers. I own seen my neighbor doing it for their berry shrub with elegant fruits. She also tied a cd to the plant..may be colors seen in the cd because of sun lantern reflection also does not allow birds to come near.try it..biddable luck
