I little over a year ago we bought a new place to hand Wichita Kansas that had plentifully of mature fruit trees. The trees looks as though they own been neglected over the years. A couple of the Apple trees are hollowed disappointingly, I'm not sure if the damage be caused by rot or insects. I consider at least one save both of the trees is doomed, but they are both still prucing good fruit. When I lived surrounded by New Orleans I saw where some Live Oaks be filled beside what looked like concrete to serve reinforce parts that were diluted by termites. I wonder if I could do something simular to get a touch more life out of the apples trees or if it would solitary hasten there disappearance?
Answers: Filling the tree isn't the 'best' solution. The concrete won't bond with the wood, and moisture will build up, proliferating rot.
The best article to do is the brace the tree. Use timber to create "crutches" for the tree. Brace them under main limbs, to the ground, braced toward the trunk.
I know, it's not going to be sightly, but it's the best means of access. You could try to grow tall perennials or attractive grasses at the base of the braces to try to conceal them.
Perhaps not the report you were hoping for?
Good luck-
