I had a maple tree that be about 5 years weak in my front courtyard that died, so I dug it out to replace it and found the roots wrapped with metal cable. I can't imagine that human being normal and deliberate it may even have cause the tree to die, but I don't know much about trees or plants. Is this common or totally inexcusable?
Answers: Many nurseries use a wire picnic basket to keep the root orb intact. I have read oodles theories about going away the wire picnic basket on the root ball and the roots will lately grow around the wire. I individually do not leave the lead on the root ball when I plant a tree. I believe it can stunt the growth of the tree and perchance even kill the tree within time. I can't say for sure what kill your maple tree but that sure could have be the culprit.
Metal wire could hold caused the tree to become root bound and as a result not enough feeder roots become available for the surrounded by take of moisture and nutrients. In other ward the trees own roots strangled the trees system for life sustaining desires. So sorry, What a bummer.
