Is it too delayed to plant a Red Maple?
How about a weeping Cherry tree?
Answers: Now is a terrific time to plant trees and shrubs, within your area.
Fall is a cool moist season, and until the ground freezes, the roots will verbs to grow. Winter sets it into dormancy, and in spring we enjoy another cool moist season, ideal for the plant to really thieve hold.
Fall is arguably the best time of the year to plant.
Red maple (Acer rubrum) and weeping cherry (Prunus subhirtella) should be fine. I would recommend staking the trees (as winter winds can loosen the rootballs), and wrap the trunks beside a paper trunk wrap- to protect them from rabbits and 'sun scald'. In the spring start fertilizing as you would normally do (not next to tree stakes).
I hope that this helps
Unless your ground is frozen or at freezing temp--now is a immaculate time to plant both. Fall is really a great season for planting perennials, shrubs, and trees--usually thru mid-November. Happy planting!
