Is it possible to catch an Opium plant to sprout if you buy the seed at the grocery store? I know they "irradiate" them to steralize the seeds... but do...

I know they "irradiate" them to steralize the seeds... but do any survive the radiation to where on earth you might be able to take a sprout?
Answers:    They don't usually go to the expense of "irradiating" seed. Some are steam sterilized.

Poppy seeds are for a while trick to sprout. They need flimsy and you should just present it a try. Cover them very insubstantially with soil and save them moist. You'll know in a week or two.

And freshly call them poppy plants. OK? Its not opium untill you chalk up the pods and let them ooze.
The with the sole purpose way to know it is to try it, and it wouldn't cost much to try - in recent times the cost of a bottle of poppy seeds :-)
