IF U PUT THE RIGHT MULCH ON IT. NOT GREEN OR MULCH THAT HAS JUST BEEN MADE INTO MULCH. YOU NEED TO USE OLDER MULCH AND IF YOU PUT IT DOWN IT WILL KILL THE GRASS BUT SOMETIMES WEEDS WILL GROW UP. U CAN JUST PULL THEM OUT.SO NO U DON'T HAVE TO KILL OR TEAR OUT THE GRASS
