we have score of butter flies and they have as much right to live out their intuitive lives ,but i dont want them to doit on my cabbage, apart from nets and marrigolds that aid i am sure, there must be some other road to keep them rotten ty

My grandmother have a jar of honey which she kept outside. She would dip sticks full of holes into the jar, and hang the sticks from trees, fence, etc. away from her garden. The holes on the sticks allow the honey to gather contained by the openings, so the critters own to work harder to get at it.
All types of insects would nurture on the luscious treat and leave her veggies alone. I own been using this method for frequent, many, oodles years.
Answers: I find the best thing to do is manufacture a physical barrier and use horticultural fleece over a hugely simple frame of bamboo cane tied together. You have to check your crop regularly 'cos weed and other pests like it beneath there but essentially if a butterfly can't land on the cabbages it can't lay eggs.
i agree with sam T, i used to suspend a fine nylon web over my cabages to stop butterflies from laying nearby eggs on the leaves and it works fine.
