The watermelon plant is--as expected--going all over the place. I'm OK with that, but I wondered whether I should try to save it within the dirt of the small garden (through a mesh fence or something similar to that) or whether I should just let it be in motion on the grass. If the plant is no more likely to get sick on the grass than on the dirt, I don't mind the sprawl. On the other foot, if a disease is more likely on grass than on dirt, I'd move it.
Thanks!
Answers: No it's not, let it of late sprawl out. Hope your watermelon turns out great, all 3 of mine died this year..bad drainage!
I've see my neighbor grow watermelon by tilling a 15 by 20 foot area, and mulching it. He got a few angelic ones, but I haven't tried watermelon myself. I believe It needs loose maybe a touch sandy soil, with good drainage, and heat up ground temperature. Just don't mow it.
