I need a list of trees whose roots do not poke out from the ground and other grows downwards, instead of spreading out.

Answers:    that's easy... in that aren't any.. all trees and plants send out roots to the side to earn all the moisture and food they can. the deep 'going down' roots are merely to help anchor the tree in it's spot.. a tree couldn't live on newly the deep roots. most trees don't USUALLY have roots that come above the soil chain. some do, tho... like maples. then, too, an elder tree will sometimes be showing roots only because the soil has 'shrunk' within over the years..

if you're wanting a tree for a space where you have hose down lines, it's best to not even bother looking..
