I have to ferns that are contained by a hanging picnic basket and I do not no how to take nurture of them, so I was wondering if someone could please abet me to get better know-how of how to take perfectionism of them.? Can they be over watered? Can I cut the ones that look brownish and it not kill the fern? I hear that you have to use a spray bottle and spray the leaves of the ferns, is this true or not and how regularly do I spray them if it is true.
thank You
totally confused
I muse you are talking around Boston fern? They are generally flaccid and almost weeping, right?
The most important issue is any several hours of early morning or in arrears afternoon sun or filtered insubstantial. Ferns need consistency beside being uniformly moist, sea and maybe set it within its liner with river standing for ten minutes. let drain and put spinal column into liner after ten minutes. Allow soil to become dry to one inc he.
Yes it is good to hold on to all brown growth trimmed. No do not mist as you can Will spend the rest of your duration doing so .
two more things , ferns like cool nouns flotation . second they do not like their fronds touched near hands . Be perfectionism full, if you break new growth the frond will die.
Good luck Pauly
Cut the brown ones off, if the plant is root bound, which it will be... you obligation to basically drown the together base contained by some water. Get a voluminous bucket and hold it down in the wet until the bubbles stop. Sometimes the roots are so crowded, when you water it, the dampen takes the fastest route out and doesn't get to the roots.
Mist it beside a water bottle regularly. It needs to be within a larger pot soon.
They don't like cool weather, anything lower than 50 degrees is fruitless for them.
If you are watering them too much, you'll see a bit of yellow on it.
Answers: Ferns generally close to a moist environment, and hanging baskets may dry out a moment or two too much for them - this depends on where you live, your weather, as powerfully as your watering habits.
Ferns such as Boston ferns (Nephrolepsis) are great and respond to misting of their fronds, so I'd recommend this. It can sometimes explanation some leaf browning though, so monitor its effects. Watch out for wind, as this can dry them out, and cause scorching. Beware of mixing ferns next to other plants, in duplicate growing pots, as they can emit substances which inhibit other plants' growth - (it's a process call allelopathy).
Ferns typically do not like to be within swamp-like conditions, so avoid overwatering, allowing them to dry a little, between waterings.
Hope this help. Good luck! Rob
Ferns want a lot of marine and shade. I don't think you can over hose down them. I set mine in my damp basement every winter and they hold lived for 5 years in alike pot. They like misting, but I never do it.
