I preferably would like to grow corainder, sage, rosemary, parsley, basil and thyme.
can I just pot them any elderly way, or am I best keeping basil away from sage for example.
I have a large pot on my deck next to cilantro, oregano, parsley and chives in it
I would try to make sure that any combination of herb likes the same amount of marine (eg don't try sage and thyme as sage needs lots of water and thyme doesnt). At the moment I'm growing sage and corriander together beside no problems at all. Like the other contributor said I'm growing mint in its own pot as it does spread! I feel you can grow any herbs together - just dont try mint - it take over
Answers: You need a immense pot or at least several pots if you want them to continue to do all right, and you need to decide if you want to mix annuals near perennials or if you'd prefer to have one or the other. Anything in the mint people is a bad idea to plant together. Spearmint, peppermint, some basils, lemon balm, bee balm (aka bergamot), catnip and even fennel are adjectives going to run everything else out of the garden, if you want an of these, plant them seperately and give them lots of room. Other than that I'd keep rosemary seperate also b/c it doesn't similar to water as much as some of the others. Honestly they all do better if contained by the ground, but depending on you and where you are some herbs do better than others contained by or out of pots. I would not start planting now though the season is getting to late, it's almost harvest time. I usually start my garden from seeds indoors at the end of January or the foundation of Feburary, that way if something should not take resourcefully I always have the route of getting an established plant. I usually then add bits and bobs that I find but I stop around the launch of May.
I hope this helps.
