We bought the house a few years ago and the backyard is in disastrous shape. I am going to cultivate and re-seed the entire lawn as the ground is completely not easy and uneven and the grass is a mix of grass and weed.
If I cultivate the lawn and donate the soil to dry to kill stale old grass etc...should I still use weedkiller adjectives over the lawn first previously cultivation?
Once seeded, how long will it nick before we hold a lawn we can tramp on, we have kids and a dog and use our backyard rather a bit.
Charli lucky for you that you don't enjoy an expensive lawn. No don't move about to the store and get a sod cutter. You said you own yukie grass. So a sod cutter won't do you any good. One style the do it here in Tex. within a small town is that they cut the grass real short. Then spray weed executioner on it to make sure adjectives the weeds are comatose. Wait a couple of days. Work your soil. Till it up and add some fertilizer if needed. Go out and lay down sod or squares down. It grows faster. Seeds take several weeks. plus you have to variety sure the birds don't eat the seed. And you have to do lots of watering. So nearby you have it. What type grass depends on your location and how much sun and shade you enjoy.
I would use the weedkiller if you have deeply of weeds already near. If you till your soil up and have lots of weed, you will just be scattering the weed seed and they will reappear.
After seeding, you should enjoy grass in 2 or 3 weeks as long as you river it well. After seed, water every year two times a day until the grass have sprouted, then you can slowly allay off the watering.
Answers: Actually, my husband and I replaced our front lawn 2 years ago. Here's what I would recommend.
Go to your local tool-rental place and ask for a sod-cutter. It is a mechanism that will actually cut and roll up your weedy sward. (We got rid of it by mitt, and let me convey you... it was tricky work!)
I would not use weed killer once your prairie is clear of the old grass. Yes, within will be weed seed within there, and when you cultivate the ground (don't forget to put some compost or dry compost in near to get it to the right texture and pH) it will of course sprout. BUT, you should use a seed-starter fertilizer and *high quality seed*, the best you can find. Call your local extension bureau -- they will know what grows best in your nouns. You might also use a roller (it's a big drum you fill near water so it's really unwieldy and you roll it on the dirt to make it nice and plane before you kernel.)
You will be tempted to pip and then throw straw adjectives over. If you do, ryegrass (otherwise known as crabgrass) will grow adjectives over your yard. It is purely as easy to use shredded rag so you don't have adjectives the weeds instantly contained by there.
Whatever you do, and however masses weeds are contained by there, do not use weed assassin until you've been competent to grow and mow the new grass 4 times (about a month of mowing). Then it will be sheltered to use a weed&feed type of fertilizer.
Good luck. I regard as, start to finish, this job will probably purloin 4 weeks. (probably 2 and a half until you can bearing on it.)
