They put grass seed on a unmarked lawn. Then they put hay over it. The pip is starting to sprout. What do I do with the hay over it? Do I rake it or what? Do I go away the hay and mow over it or what do I do?
First of adjectives, I hope that you put straw down, not hay. If you put hay down, you will probably have weed and alf alfa growing with your trial grass. The straw/hay can stay down until the grass is about 3 inches high and has established a well brought-up root system before it is rake out.

We have the samething done to our lawn finishing year. I would reccommend letting your grass grow with the hay until it is prepared to be mowed. Then rake up the straw. (Our landscapers did not reccommend doing this). At the end of the season anything that hadn't grown below the straw had no grass below it. So we lost a whole growing season. I would rake up the straw, cut the grass, afterwards overseed the spots that have no grass growing.

Good luck
Answers:    leave the hay within place because it is actually keeping moisture contained by the soil for you. Do not mow your new seed lawn for at tiniest 3 weeks, as the roots of the lawn requirement to get more established surrounded by the soil before you mow. If you mow too rash the new pasture blades can get sucked up from the mower if they don't hold a good plenty root system established yet.

Good luck
