I don't know what kind of vegtable to plant there; or what considerate of plant. How do I get grass to grow there?
Rent a roto-tiller. Add composted matter. sorry, that's after you use the rototiller. Apply composted business. Wait two weeks, watering occasionally. Plant whatever yoiu like.

Compost, and lots of it. You can start by laying down several thick sheets of weekly and covering it with lawn clippings, dirt, compost; almost anything organic, but it needs to be a angelic mixture. Start with easy plants resembling parsley, mint or other herbs, and keep building up your soil next to organic matter. I used this method and in a minute grow most of my own herbs and vegetables. I have clay soil - I've tried everything including, have compost and soil ammendment delivered from a nursury, without much luck. The subsequent year my soil was hard as concrete again. Until I found Kellog's Compost. You can achieve it from Home Depot and it works. I landscaped my front yard concluding summer, mixing it into the soil as I went and this year the soil is still great.
Answers:    Get a rototiller and till the complete thing up, then lay sod where on earth you want a lawn and plant a garden where you want garden. Get rid of rocks beforehand, too, and it's well brought-up to add some soil prep to get things going okay. Water everything well once it's all contained by, so it doesn't burn up. Good luck!
