I put paper over the entire bed. Also if the newspaper covers the bulbs will the flowers still be able to grow subsequent year?
Answers:    Daffodils should be able to push through the quality newspaper next year, as it will be soft and to a degree decomposed by then. If the daily seems pretty intact subsequent spring, peek underneath it to see if you own daffodils growing sideways underneath it.

But I'm wondering...did your daffodils still have green leaves on them? If they did, and you any cut them off, or covered them beside paper, next they are no longer photosynthesizing and storing energy for subsequent year - which may mean that when the pop up subsequent year, you won't have any flowers bloom, or at tiniest, fewer of them.
Daffodils can complete ably with most weed as they grow fairly thoughtful underground. If you recently transplanted the bulbs, presumably they still own leaves attached. These leaves must be exposed to sunlight for the bulbs to form properly this year so they will flower next year. You won't want to move a mulch of paper on the bed over the winter -- it will become a soggy mess and would interfere beside the bulbs growing early subsequent spring.
