The flowers are a bit smaller than regular morning glories and are light purple. What is it?
I enjoy a couple plants that the leaves turn purple when its getting too much sun. They call it getting "sunburned". Could be you have a moonflower which lone blooms in the evening and maybe the leaves are sunburned.

It sounds like it may be a type of morning glory, but as for
the purple leaves, I've never see any with purple leaves. Did
you plant it from seed? If so it may be a hybrid. Some
nursery companies are coming out beside so many hybrids nowawadays that it may be a new type of morning glory. If
it come up by itself (volunteer), maybe it's actually a aboriginal morning glory. Have you tried asking on some other sites
on the web? I had a plant I couldn't identify and I contacted
several nurseries and horticulture.com. One of them figure
out the name of it for me, but now I can't remember which one! It may hold been horticulture.com so try that site. Also
Birds and Blooms magazine has a slice about questions
more or less flowers, birds, gardening, etc. that you can ask them.
They're pretty good at answering some really baffling plant
questions. Good luck!
