They aren't planted very low. I have one that have grown alot, but no blooms. Can anyone help? Thanks, Candice
Answers: If you hold bearded iris and enjoy the bulb part fully underground they expected aren't blooming because they are too deep. Bearded iris approaching to have at smallest the top half of the fleshy bulb (called a rhizome) above the ground.
If this is the problem verbs them up and replant so that the top of the rhizome is above ground but the roots are buried. You probably won't get blooms this year unless they are a belated or rebloomer.
Sometimes iris don't bloom because they aren't strong enough, and will continue a year to build the reserves needed to flower. It can also be that they need more time to settle, but at a year I'd deem it would be planting depth more than anything. Another cause could be they are really unpunctually bloomers, and won't bloom until the end of what is considered iris season.
I planted 3 rhizomes respectively of 2 different irises 2 autumns ago. The one iris bloomed the following spring, but only on one of the rhizomes. The other one grew alot of leaves but no blooms. This year, the iris that did bloom ultimate year has flower stalks on adjectives the rhizomes and is blooming beautifully. The other one have buds on it but looks like it is self hit with Iris borer. I have to cut the biggest flower stalk off because it have streaks of flesh exposed and the rest of the flower stalks don't look very angelic. It looks like this fastidious variety is particularly susceptible to Iris Borer. I will have to verbs them up and burn them. You don't want to compost foliage that is suspected of have borers.
