i have a poisonis castor bean plant in my patio and according to my zone it is going to grow a annual well i want to harvest the kernel from this plant for next year it is a beautiful specimen i am a seasoned gardener but this one have me scatching my head any ideas how
Answers: Leave the seed on the plant until they pop out of the hull. They will naturally reseed themselves, so much so you will be pulling them up by hand. They are smooth to grow from a seed, just put the kernel in the ground and water it! They are dazzling and look good in flower arrangements near orange flowers and sage green foliage. I got my first seed from some Hmong farmers who have a garden nearby. They use the plant as a medicinal poltice (external lone!).
I echo the previous post. The plant should be illegal to grow. I touched a Castor bean plant insubstantially once, and my fingers started to tingle. I immediately washed my hand afterwards. It's just irresponsible and a liability. Who cares how good-looking it is? There are plenty of beautiful plants that are less toxic. I would not grow such a death-defying plant. What if a child eats a bean or a leaf from it?
