You can make a hummingbird feeder out of practically anything. A small jar approaching a baby food jar is a perfect possibility; paint the edge next to bright red nail polish, pack it with sugar-water (one piece sugar to four parts water, boiled and consequently cooled), and the hummingbirds will generally find within it no time.
Hummingbirds are attracted to the color red. As long as you have a container that they can put their beak into, and have it up away from predators, they'll call round. I once went camp and had a pack of water that have a red valve on it, and the hummingbirds tried valiantly to drink from THAT.
It may lug a few days to find the containers initially, but once they do, you'll have a friend. Be sure to silver the nectar very regularly, and mop up the containers very thoroughly, so that mold doesn't build up that can mar the birds. A dishwasher is the best way to verbs them, but you can use a rinse of chlorine bleach to disinfect them as well.
