I live in tepid zone 8, and am growing carrots, peas, leeks, cilantro, beets, cabbage, pepper, and cucumbers.
Answers:    From my experience with gardening, I indicator when I should water my plants when I pocket a handful of soil and squeeze it; if water pours out it's too raining. If only a few drops drip out consequently its watered well. Also after squeezing the soil if it stays formed, but is also crumbly it's watered plenty. If it stays clumpy and doesn't break up easily next it's probably too wet and doesn't necessitate to be watered.
every 2/3 days for about 10-15 minutes. best result are able with a soaker hose
