Probably depends where you live,if in that are alot of illegal immigrant to do the work,they will work dirt cheap.
Personally I do my own yard work.But Ive hear of people paying $35 to $45 an hour for companies. Teens here where on earth I live average $8. I have hear though rates as high as $75 an hour within wealthy neighborhoods.You probably would enjoy to confirm with respectively customer exactly what work they wanted done,later estimate how long the work will take,and tender them an average cost. Also,dont forget if you have your own buisness to keep hold of records of everything for export tax write offs ect.

Alternative to peat.?
It depends on the patio size. When I mowed lawns, I'd charge $25 for small-medium sized lawns and $35 for the larger ones.

I can't remember the acreage of the lawns at the moment though.
Garden compost?
Answers:    Easier to charge by the hour. Go for $20 per hour, and if you need to contribute them the price up front, just estimate how long it will transport. You don't need to be precise.
