Most bean plants are annuals. Their vivacity span is completed within one cycle of season. They should be sown in the ground after adjectives danger of frost have passed. You many start them early indoors and transplant them outdoors after all exposure of frost has passed. When transplanting be sure to coalesce them off (set the plants out doors a bit at a time so that they can become accustomed to their unmarked climate). You should consult the seed collection for specific directions for your type of bean.
Beans grow very speedily and are typically not too demanding which makes them especially fun a first garden project. They are also excellent for demonstrating germination and the duration cycle of dicotyledons in a class room setting (Lima beans will germinate in a day or two sometimes). You can enjoy a plant a couple feet towering in a concern of days, depending on the bean. Different types of beans will vary within the amount of time they take to germinate, but once growth begin it is rapid. Most beans will want a stake or trellis as a support.
For the classroom, place a folded quality newspaper towel in a clear plastic cup. Place the bean between the broadsheet towel and the side of the cup so that you can see the bean. Moisten the paper towel and preserve it moist, not dripping wet, until the bean sprouts. Beans will sprout more at full tilt if you keep them within a dark location. This is an excellent subject for simple order school horizontal experiments. (Note: The beans do not fare very resourcefully when transplanted from the plastic cup and paper towel to soil once they are more than a couple inches towering.)
