I planted Pachysandra 3 yrs ago 1ft apart and after 3 yrs, they don't fill within. What should I do?
Answers: It may take 5-10 years to fill-in. We planted it contained by heavy shade in the order of 8 years ago (zone 5), and it's taken this long to get it to where on earth it really covers the ground well. I consider that to be a upright thing; wouldn't want an invasive ground cover that keep spreading out of control after it have filled the intended nouns. We had English Ivy, Snow on the Mountain and Lily of the Valley contained by this area previosly, and it be an ongoing chore to keep it inside the boundaries of the beds.
The switch to any building project is a good foundation. If you put 4-6 inches of composted soil contained by the area you are wanting to establish, work it into the existing soil, till, fork, anything it takes. Rake the soil smooth and plant new plants. There is a tiller call the Mantis and you can till in 8-12 inch widths. This is apt for getting in-between existing plants. I would also fertilize every 6-8 weeks when spring growth starts during the growing season til may or first of june. I also recommend that you mulch near a tight packing mulch, like hardwood mulch. Water every three days for the first 2 weeks dropping hindmost to 2 per week thereafter unless weather requires differently.
