I want to plant American Arborvitaes as close to a neighbors property as I can, but want to make sure I won't be in motion over the line when they eventually grow to common width.. I can prune regularly to control if I requirement to so I can plant closer.
Answers: I had an American Arborvitae dither and even though I kept it pruned regularly, it still grew to a width of in the region of 15 feet. My dissemble was more or less 35 years old (and 30 foot tall) when we finally decided of late to yank the darn article out.
To prune it and have tolerable work to get a stepladder in within, plus space to drop the prunings, we needed at least 6 foot of space on both sides of the hedge. Accounting for growing and pruning space, you have need of to plant it at least 21 foot from your neighbor's property.
You might give some thought as to the amount of shade that stall will cast...within some parts of the US, you can't block the sunlight into your neighbor's yard and this dissemble would certainly do it.
Two to three foot should do it, as you can shear the neighbors side anyway. Mine is 4 feet across at the groundwork (30 feet high).
