I'm planting a tree in my garden and I'm have great difficulty getting the spade into the soil as it's so cold.
Any help would be appreciated.
Answers: If your ground is frozen solid, very soon is not the time to plant a tree. When you plant the tree it should be able to generate root growth and the roots should smoothly spread throughout the soil freely and unimpeded. If the ground is frozen, this will not be possible and the tree will suffer and may die up to that time it has a accident to grow. All the home remedies and concoctions are not advised as some of them contain damaging chemicals. The best time to plant is in the fall down "before" the ground freezes and the roots will grow generously back winter sets in. If the crash planting is not possible, it is best to skulk until spring, when the ground can be worked easily. The common rule of thumb is, if the ground can't be worked, then you shouldn't be planting! Hope this answers your request for information...
