I have a poinsettia departed over from a couple of christmas holidays ago and it is doing very very well, but the leaves don't turn red anymore.
Any thoughts?
the plant have to be in total complete shadow for several months for the leaves to turn red . commercial growers do this by covering their plants you are better off accepting tis pointsetta will enjoy nice green leaves and if yo want one that is road turn buy a new one at christmas and adopt the fact that it is too complicated for you to turn the leaves red and just purchase up to date ones each year
They need a few months of fogginess in the tumble to bloom again for Christmas. I have other wanted to try this but merely can't seem to keep hold of the thirsty, root bound little suckers going long enough (LOL) Good Luck!

Answers: Pointsetta is a plant from the southern hemisphere so its growing season is different than what it is here in the US to capture them to bloom you have to dwindle the time it spends in the frothy and cover it with black curtains adjust the time and increasing it little by little to force them into bloom. The bloom is really the little yellow stamens i.e. in the center of the plant leaves the red leaves around it are a result of the plant blooming to attract insects for pollination. The plant have to go into a dormant state first and into total shade then the table lamp is gradually increased. That is a nut shell newspaper.
