Most orchids suffer from the potential to rot, if they are watered too much, though I don't know which type of Orchid that you have. Typically, once a week or so, submerging the pot into some hose down for a few minutes or so, is enough.

Phalaenopsis is the most commonly grown orchid, and this will really suffer from over watering. This plant have fleshy long oval leaves, and is commonly called the moth orchid. If you can, identify which orchid you own, and then wish out expert care tips for that type. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phalaenopsi... shows a few pictures of this type, if it help.

Otherwise, it could be Cymbidium, which has reed resembling long leaves, and flowers naturally contained by spring. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymbidium

Dendrobiums and Oncidiums are also grown.

Water all of these when the pot have become lighter, and dry on the surface, again typically once a week.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob
