I recently required some railway sleepers from a friend and want to use them in my garden. I want to use some as posts but dont want th kids touching them and getting Creosolt on their clothes. Is near a way of getting the creosolt off the sleepers?
You might be capable of jetwash the surface off, but I'm pretty sure they are actually impregnanted beside the stuff. Nope, it's deep into the wood. Time will eventually eliminate the stuff, but it might be years.
The risk to your children is small, and probably only if ingested, but I can understand your concern. What I would do is stamp them with a clear sealer such as yacht or matt varnish. Do it on a hot dry day and it should concluding a good while. I don't know of any way to remove the creosote. If you're conversation about a vegetable garden, I'd be more concerned about the chemicals within the creosote being absorbed into your garden plants. I might use a sleeper for a retaining wall, but I wouldn't use them within a garden.
Sorry it can't be done. You could paint them over. set them on fire

I cannot assume of a way to remove the stuff

But I guess you could paint over it., even if you just used

cheap wood preservative
If they are hard wood sleepers the creosote will only own penetrated a few mm so you can power plane them to remove the impregnated layer softwood you entail to shave more off. hi i think you will find that general public have just realised skin diseases can be caught of frail style railway sleepers .now sleepers have a different coating so be drastically carefull .one site on e bay that sells them have more info regarding any dangers
You would be better sour covering them with something the kids could touch, and with smaller quantity splinters. It is not possible to remove the creosote. Painting or varnishing wont work any.Time and lots of it is your best bet.
Answers:    You can't. It is impregnate very deep indeed. Hot sun may even bring in it leach out. You should have been advise of this before you purchased. Most decent firms explain the problem. It's creosote by the opening, and it is a carcinogen.
