I have 3 acres cleared, used for nice patio area but end year it was over come by sand spures and this year it is so doomed to failure the entire area is un usable for impressive children to play.
I'm assuming you're talking around what we call grass burrs here within Texas. They are small burrs that have needles on them that come across to have hooks on them because once they stick you they hold to be pulled out. There are pre-emergence herbicides that help to control them that should be applied within the fall (Oct.) and again surrounded by the Spring. One of the ways to help control them is to enjoy a very in good health lawn. They don't compete exceptionally well near healthy grass. Good luck.

You may have to shift through a growth cycle to get rid of the spurs. That is, when the rain come and the spurs (seeds) germinate, kill past its sell-by date the weeds beside herbicide before they generate more spurs. Any spurs that did not germinate will probably perish over the winter and shouldn't be a problem the next year.

We have a similar problem on a sandy recreation nouns (hundreds of acres) here in San Diego a few years ago. People couldn't tramp on the sand barefooted without picking up hurting stickers. That winter it rained and the stickers (seeds) sprouted. The together area be covered in weed where not oodles had grown back.

Before the weeds be mature ample to produce stickers, the city maintenance general public came out and cultivated (disked) the nouns to uproot the weeds that have grown. They then applied a granular weed contract killer to control the growth of additional seedling. The area have been clear of weed and stickers for about three years presently.
Answers:    I believe there is a pesticide that will oblige.. a trip to the garden supply will prolly fix that.... but one thing we enjoy tried with that does really back is to hang a burlap pod behind the mower, dragging on the ground, to snag up the sand spurs so they don't spread and keep hold of the grass cut close during the season the sand spurs are maturing on the stalk. We have have them wiped out a few times but on the sand they blow in from other areas and regrow quite frequently. Good Luck with it... your grandkids necessitate that to play on!
