How do I save unwanted bugs out of my butterfly garden? My daughter and I started a small butterfly garden from seed...
My daughter and I started a small butterfly garden from seed (a retail mix contained by an envelope). I have also planted moonflowers and morning glory to grow up the fence contained by the back of the garden. Ants and aphids or something are intake the leaves of my morning glories and moonflowers, and some of the leaves of the current plants that are sprouting. How can I stop whatever is ingestion my plants from killing the garden earlier it even gets going? Since it will be a butterfly garden, I without a doubt do not want to kill ALL the insects next to some kind of spray, I still want to attract the butterflies. Any suggestions?
Answers: Are the plants in actuality dying, or are you mainly concerned that the leaves are human being eaten? Have you in actual fact seen the insects,or a short time ago the damage? (Don't you love an answer that poses more question that you originally posed?)
Anyway, it may be something that you will have to live beside unless you can get a apposite look at whatever is intake the leaves. Plants can often do OK even next to some of their leaves eaten. If it is aphids, you can spray them past its sell-by date the plant with a hose.
If you want a butterfly garden you'll only just have to swot up to live with the bugs. Any insecticide that kill or repels another bug will do the same to a butterfly. Why not draw from a good insect ID book and learn to spot and appreciate the variety of creatures that are attracted to your butterfly garden.
