I planted dill weed and it is growing very nicely. I enjoy no idea how to get the dill weed from the plant. I know what it looks resembling in the jar from the store, but is that the leaves or seeds one buys from the store? What do I look for on the plant, and what do I cut and dry? How do I dry doesn`t matter what I am supposed to cut?
are you planing on making some pickles
Just trim the little stick like leaves. You can dry it contained by a dehydrator, in your stove, on screens, or by lifeless upside down. Dill dries quickly.
On the rest of the plant that you don't cut, you might find butterfly larva because dill attracts certain butterflies. Some of the caterpillars and butterflies are the most fine (in my opinion).
You might prefer the flavor of dill before it makes a flower and core, but you can still cut it after it makes a flower. You can also harvest the seed.
Dill is wonderful!
Answers: Cut off the stocks with the flowers and seed and hang them upside down somewhere to dry. When they are dry, just shake them and the seed fall to the ground for your use.
You trim past its sell-by date the feathery leaves and let them dry. Personally I prefer fresh dill leaves a bit than dry. I freeze the fresh leaves in a small plastic bag next use them like dry dill in cooking, but the flavor is much better. Dill seed are also useful in cooking. cut it stale at the stalk and hang and dry it . When using throw whole sprigs into your soup or anything
You can start harvesting dill leaves -- often referred to as "dill weed" -- as soon as a plant have 4 to 5 leaves. If you have many plants, you can bring in entire stalks, or harvest a bit of weed from a number of plants. Snip the fern-like leaves from the plant beside scissors or by pinching them off by hand. The night green leaves are called "Dill Weed". Harvest leaves at any time. The young, tender leaves are best for flavor. Harvest flower head after seeds have formed, and the flower commander has died. Tie a group of stems together and hang upside down to dry. Make sure to own a container or bag under them to arrest seed. Once they are dry, shake out the remaining seeds.
