My lawn have a lot of uncovered patches and requests some attention. What is the best way of restoring my prairie to how it should be, and getting it ready for Spring/Summer?
Add a layer of compost and/or some grass fertilizer, then wet well. You should not stipulation to add any seed.
put some new grass seed down
cover with chicken line until it roots to stop birds eating it
or procure some turf, they sell it year long very soon at most nurseries
Answers: First bad, I wonder if you have grubs. Dig down rather in the showing spots and see if you find any grub larva--they look like big white worms. You'll hold to kill them first, if you enjoy them. Go to a good garden center and ask for counsel. You might have to put down two applications--Mach II or Dylox. This spring, I'd put down a fitting, organic fertilizer as soon as the ground thaw and kill the weed when they start to appear. Apply a crab grass preventer at the end of March--when the Forsythia are within bloom, if you have Forsythia contained by your area. Then surrounded by Mid-August through Mid-September, I would reseed the bare spots and fertilize and hose down.
