How can I maintain duckweed out of my pond? I have a pond that's approximately 40' X 80',...
I have a pond that's approximately 40' X 80', and every year it get grown over with what looks approaching a green mat of what I'm told is duckweed. The pond's not aerated and is primarily a runoff pond that can get pretty low in the warmth of summer, but has never truly dried up. (I'm in the Midwest) Short of running an aerator, which I plan to do eventually, I be wondering if I could treat it with something to destroy the duckweed, but not harm the grasses, frogs, fish and so on that I savour having contained by the pond. Any help would be appreciated, as the pond is lately now formation to cover over. Thanks.
Answers: Get a duck to eat the weed or see the Aquatic Weed Management Control Methods site
It works as a cover for the fish and the frogs as well as other blustery life. you could bring it contained by to some pond shops and see for sure what it is and may be they will buy it .. because some people approaching it for there goldfish ponds. and the DNR uses it when they brand manmade marshes/wetlands!
