A friend of mine says the only route to get rid of it is to move. I am not allergic to it, but want it gone. Moving is not an option
spray deisel on it it kills the top growth and eventualy kills the roots I own not tried it yet, but we were merely advised to use roundup also for the same problem.
Roundup is good. After a few hours, it's safe for population and animals to come in contact with it. Go to the store, read the sign on Roundup.
And do get rid of the stuff even though you're not allergic. Your dogs aren't allergic to it either, so when they achieve the oil on their fur they can infect an allergic person who pets them. it is a weed and it requests to be pulled out by hand so that the roots are removed and you can cover the area contained by mulch so that it wont grow again.
Answers: First of adjectives, DO NOT BURN POISON IVY. The volatile oils that make it burn the skin, will be aerosolized and will burn the lungs of individuals and animals for blocks around you. The article below explains in detail about the urushiol grease in the ivy that does the damage.
Your best bet is to use Roundup. Read the directions painstakingly. It is a pesticide and can be envirotoxic if used improperly.
Edit: And PLEASE, do not use petroleum based products approaching gasoline, diesel or used motor oil. Those are considered HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. It only take a tiny amount to contaminate the groundwater.
