My front lawn has devout potential, but it's been badly taken exactness of the last couple years. Most of the grass is dry and brittle and there's yellow patch all over the place. What can I do to acheive the pretty green lawn that you see surrounded by magazines?
Answers:    It may be time to reseed to cover over the brown patches. Then follow a honest watering schedule to make sure the grass get the water it needs. You didn't mention weed, but pulling weeds and using a general weed hired gun also will help. In the end you want the grass to be strong satisfactory to crowd out the weeds. You also want to look at sun conditions -- does the grass get satisfactory sun? This will dictate what type of grass seed you use. Here's a link to a site that have lots of lawn care info. Good luck!

It depends how much work you are feeling like to put in. It takes abundantly of work to get a lawn looking honest and then consistency to keep it that path.
There are a couple of ways you could go about it. If you are someone beside disposable income, and not a ton of time, you could contract with TruGreen Chemlawn or some other company that will weed and feed your sward on a regular basis. Some people frown on this because it does cost $$ and it IS chemicals... but it does work. Outside of the treatments, you would only need to water regularly and mow regularly (hint, mow elevated and often, it promotes deeper root growth, which makes for a in good health, more durable lawn that requires less river.)
The other route is to go and buy lawn treatment products yourself. I individually recommend Scott's, it's the premium product. Get the Scott's fertilizer with weed control and pay attention to the watering instructions on the shoulder bag. The instructions are actually pretty easy to follow, but you only just need to be consistent with the watering, that's the most celebrated ingredient in the equation. Eventually, as your lawn get healthier and stronger, you will be able to sea less often, the objective is once or twice a week, your wallet will thank you!
Back to the watering and disposable income... if you can afford it, an underground sprinkler with a programmable schedule will formulate things a TON easier on you, it gives you the ability to river before you wake up (which is the best time to river, and you don't have to run it that long). The other good point to do with the underground sprinkler is hook it up to it's own water meter so you don't grasp charged for sewage, that will knock out half of the cost of the water you use outside of the house.
I know I go on for a long time, but I hope this helps!
