Hi, im 14, and i have some redwood seedlings that i own grown from seed, i want them to grow faster and stronger than they would do naturaly, Please give me guidance.
I am using a little fertaliser on them
they are about 3cm high-ceilinged
you can with the sole purpose provide for their needs and see that they have no stresses... you cannot 'make' a plant do something . folks that run greenhouses own chemicals that can 'force' a plant to hurry and bloom, or some that will keep the plant FROM growing so fast, but there's zilch to hurry a plant other than good watchfulness...
if you over stimulate and over fix your plants, you could kill them. what's the rush? you should buy a more mature redwood and plant that, it will grow faster than from seed. you also have to consider your climate, is it good for this tree, etc.
I would insinuation the sunset western garden book, it will give you some good info.
Answers: At this stage they probably dont need much fertilizer, but ensure they don't dry out. Remove any side shoots that appear so the seedling isn' putting energy into branches that you wouldn't want, and turn the seedling through 180 degrees every day or every other sunshine on a regular basis, so they grow straight, that way you should avoid staking them.
