The hostas I have are outgrowing the planting spot they are contained by. I want to separate them and re-locate them. What time of the year is best to do this?
Answers:    You can lift and separate them at any time of year, but presently is the best really. All I ever do is dig up the undamaged plant and jam a garden fork into it afterwards pry it apart, or cut it apart into smaller sections near a shovel. As long as there are some roots and shoot it will live and be fine.

I've done several hostas this track and never had one die on me. Good luck!
Now, is the time, simply take a shovel and place contained by middle of hosta and seperate, you will need to sea water hose until roots take hold. I hold even seperated them in belated June, altho they didn,t grow much the 1st year, but did do better the next.
