It's red, with a rough rind, character of like a lychee fruit, and the inside is ashen and soft like a date. No seed inside, just a prickly, rough exterior. It be on a small, average looking tree. Any ideas on what it could be or if it's tasty?
You should contact your local county extension agent or consult a gardening catalog.

Photo???
How around a little more description of the tree. Foliage, growth obsession, flowering habit, evergreen, deciduous, what?
Aroma?
Answers:    I wouldn't recommend eating it if you don't know what it is.

My single guesses are rose hips, figs, or a prickly pear.

As mentioned, a photo will help 100%.
