We purchased 9 weeping cherries to line the driveway. I know it's late within the year, but the owner gave us a watering schedule. We planted them end Sunday (one week ago) and I have been watering every other afternoon.

5 look like they are dying, the leaves have adjectives browned and died, the trunks and branches still look ok. I don't know if this is just shock from being planted.

We planted a pear tree, willow and 18 cypress and some miscellanous bushes that are adjectives doing well.

We are in zone 6 and the soil is supposedly terribly good for planting...it is a light sandy color and lots of fool's gold ingots throughout.
Answers:    This is not a good time of the year to be transplanting trees. The autumn would have be much better. Anyway, it is probably just transplant shock. Keep them well watered until they branch out again. The roots need to re-establish micro-feeder roots. It`s possible it could be next spring beforehand leafing out again, depending on the size of the trees. The general rule-of-thumb is (if I remember correctly) appx. three months dormancy for every 3/4 inch diameter of trunk.
Also, to distinguish between dormant and dead, delicately scrape about 1/2 inch sliver of OUTER yap off trunk or limb. If green shows beneath, the tree is still alive.
i be aware of for you becasue i purchased to of these and both died, and they are very expensive, it is possible for them to stay dormant untill next year though, i thought mine be dead so i dug it up, only to find out it have new roots, so be careful
