Help me accumulate my maple tree!? I have a huge maple tree within my front yard and...
I have a huge maple tree within my front yard and it's the ONLY source of shade for my entire patio. I've lived in my home for 8 years and over the ending 2 or so it seems to be dying or something. There are still tons of heicopters but narrowly any leaves have grown and I look at the others contained by the neighborhood and they are covered in leaves! I live surrounded by Michigan in zone 5. Is in that anything I can do it help it bloom more leaves? Miracle grow? Anything? I don't want to loose it cuz it's the solitary shade I have! And I am a single mom so really can't afford to own it removed should it totally die! Thanks!
I am afraid maples are not the hardiest things on the planet surrounded by terms of trees - the soft-wood variety (fancier colors and silver barks) are the shortest lived ones. Even the hard-wood ones can succumb over time to disease and insects. If it has be failing for 2 years, I think it may own borers - take a photo and a branch to your local agricultural extension office (put the fern in a plastic bag) and they should know how to tell you what might be scheduled or even what is happening. The US Department of Agriculture make their offices hold up on all the plant illnesses, including trees (because trees are farm, too) so they are a good free resource and they own "extension" offices surrounded by most communities. They also may have thinking on cheaper tree removal. And if you ask around, sometimes a nice neighbor will take a tree down for you, as long as they do not hurt themselves and wrap up up suing your homeowner's insurance in the process!
First, is it a sugar maple (hard wood) or a silver maple (soft wood)? What color are the leaves? Normal green or yellowish?
Your best bet is to have an arborist out to examine the tree and provide you recommendations. If you hold noticed that it have been going downhill for 2 years, it may be too behind schedule to help it. But it will still be infinitely cheaper to treat the problem than to enjoy a large tree removed.
Answers: Trees try desperately to reproduce when they are going through tough times. The fact that this tree have produced seeds and great quantity tells you this.
Maples are not short lived and I regularly drop by display gardens with really old maples of adjectives types.
If you have have below average rainfall in your nouns and you are relying on just the grass watering to keep this tree optimistic it just won't be adequate. Trees throw of their leaves if its dry and they can't support them.
Don't fertilize with miracle grow (too strong at this stage).
I would pass the tree a regular deep watering. Lay the hose at the drip flash (edge of where the tree grows out to) and turn on partially. Leave running for 1/4 to 1/2 an hour once a week during hot weather. Start now to see if it will revive.
Get some Seasol (or other deep-sea weed extract) from garden shop mix with hose down, and water the tree near it. This is a plant tonic - mild but does a fantastic job.
You may find that it is solitary lack of hose. Believe me I live in Australia and I see your problem adjectives the time.
