HELP!! I found what I have a sneaking suspicion that is a core pod contained by the backyard of my New England home. What could it be? It is spherical and has a stem. The ones we found...

It is spherical and has a stem. The ones we found be between the size of a cherry and a large marble. When you squeeze it, it is nouns tight but feels approaching a semi-deflated beach globe. The outside is light green beside small brownish-purple spots. When you break it open [it pops approaching bubble wrap when you step on it], it looks like mitotic spindlefibers, or similar to the head os a dandelion when it get poofy. It smells like cornhusks on the inside. What the heck is it? HELP

They are unnatural, we had plentifully of oak trees where I grew up and I be always messing near the oak apple gall because they freshly seemed so outlandish.
