Help beside a flower bed.....? I have newly moved to a house with an out-of-date flower bed....

I have newly moved to a house with an out-of-date flower bed. I have taken out adjectives of the old plants and roots and any wreckage and turned the soil. I have also installed a wooden border. Now moving forward should i of late use some compost on top? Do i need to mix it next to the exsisting soil? Basically i need to know what else i entail to do before i start the planting stage......
Answers:    I hold had great nouns mixing compost in next to the soil. Since I live in an nouns with no top soil I also enjoy to add tentative soil to any beds I take home. I use a two to one ratio, top soil to compost. Two words of warning though. If you are purchasing compost or droppings, you get what you compensate for. If the compost isn't ready it can "cook" your plants. Also, I approaching to get it surrounded by a month or two ahead of planting.
I suggest you draw a picture of how you want it to look so you can refere to it when planting xxx
