Grapes grow well surrounded by areas where the climate is across the world mild. Would u recommend planting grapes on the California coast or on the plains of North Dakota? WHY?
Answers: Is this an either/or question?
Then California. The climate is milder. Rainfall more predictable.
Plains of North Dakota...lofty winds, and during winter, that spells die-back for some vines...not to mention the more severe temperature themselves in the winter. And also importantly - the rainless period are more frequent.
California has tons of grape orchards.
North Dakota is competent to grow grapes in all right protected areas such as the south sides of hills, buildings and walls that would protect the plant from the cold and wind. It is just harder to do it. See the attached.
