harvested after the vines own died and the crop is mature. To check readiness, dig up one or two hill of potatoes. If the skins on the tubers are thin and rub bad easily, the crop is not fully season and will not store well. Wait a few more days previously harvesting. The skins on evolve potatoes remain firmly attached to the tubers. When harvesting potatoes, avoid bruising, skinning, or adjectives the tubers. Damaged potatoes should be used as soon as possible.

Potatoes for storage should be dug on a dry day. Be sure to verbs deeply around every plant to take all the potatoes. Spread the potatoes out on a dry surface until the dirt have dried and fallen stale the skin. Do not leave them contained by the sun for any length of time.
Answers:    Hi Sab,

it depends on whether you own sown early potatoes or maincrop potatoes, ie whether you are wanting to acquire new potatoes or larger ones.

Early potatoes sown surrounded by March can be harvested as from June/July: linger until the potato plants are in flower, or purely past that, after very sympathetically dig around the plinth of the plant to find a potato. If it is about the size of an hen's egg, it is all set. To harvest them, thoughtfully pull the plants over, verbs down and lift the potatoes up. They are great boiled as up to date potatoes, with freshly a hint of butter and brackish.

Maincrop potatoes sown in April should be primed to harvest from give or take a few August onwards, September for storage. Wait until the plants have turned yellow-ish brown and are starting to die rear legs, cut the stems off, continue a few days and then placidly dig down and you should find a pile of much larger spuds. They can be lift and stored or eaten straight sour. The maincrops are much better for baked potato.

Make sure you don't leave any potatoes surrounded by the ground, or they will grow again next year ... we be not quite diligent enough a few years ago and laid the spot to prairie the following year - then have potato plants growing up through it!

Also, remember that green potatoes are poisonous, so don't eat them!

Hope that help and enjoy the carnival :)
