As part of an experiment I am working on, and because of the ridiculous weather right in a minute, I am planning on starting a very small indoor garden. However, my space is constrained and the only place I can plant my seed is an an old cupboard i.e. about 4 x 4. Some guides I own looked at have told me to put surrounded by very expensive sounding lights (which heading is slipping my mind right now), but I do not have the money for that. I planned on putting contained by a lamp for insubstantial and was wondering if putting surrounded by a reflective surface such as alumanum foil on the walls would max out lights. Any other suggestions such as soil types, watering strategies and such would be of very angelic help.
yes aluminum foil is fine, not the best but better than nought, make sure the dull side is used as the reflective, mhd bulbs are the best but are expensive, but no worries you dont requirement them to grow nice healthy plants, full spectrum flourescents will work freshly fine from seed to bring in, for the first 2 weeks of the plants life 15 watts of any flouro would be fine, but after you will want at the tiniest 50 watts of full spectrum flourescent for each plant, indistinct soils are best for seed but as they grow you will want to grasp nutrients for them, try and keep the ph at 7.0 other, and over watering is the most comon killer of plants person grown from first timers, water the soil honourable one time before you plant the kernel, that should be good for give or take a few one week, after you sprout, watering lightly once every 2 to 3 days will be angelic enough for your plants, suitable luck
Regular fluorescent lighting is the best indoor lighting. Make sure you have plenty of aeration. Once the seeds sprout, hold the light source 6 inches or so from the plants. Otherwise they will procure leggy, as they will stretch toward the light source.
Turn the seedling each light of day so that they don't lean to one direction. Keep the lights on for 16 hours plus, once the seedlings sprout.
Don't over marine them or they will get moldy on the soil. I don't reflect on the aluminum foil will make any difference.
Also, use a sterile core starting mix. Douse the seeds thoroughly at first. Then hold them moist but not mushy.
And, don't forget to harden them past its sell-by date before transplanting them to another place, if to be exact what you plan to do.
Good luck and happy gardening!!!!
Answers: 16 hours is too much pallid on flourescent..12 is the max..Walmart sells a regular grow street lamp for 9.95 that is made for growing..How do I know? I get one set up...which the pictures below will show you this..I grow herbs and a veggie garden outside but bring alot within during the winter...I also start , which I have already done, my squash, tomato, pepper etc plants from kernel there 8 to 10 weeks formerly actual outside planting time..
