I have a steep slope in the backyard which is surrounded by shade. Can any one suggest a ground cover that is not too invasive? Ideally something that can be planted with seed this year.

I love this site for the furrow options. Once you know the name of what you want you can rummage through for seeds.
Japenese Spurge. (Pachysandra Terminalis)
Well drained soil.
Work surrounded by peat moss before planting.
Feed 10-10-10
Prefers acidic soil.
Easy to grow.
Answers: Periwinkle would do. It is not too invasive, as long as you mow to the edge of where you want it to grow. It have a pretty flower in the late spring, too.
foxgloves are pretty. there's also decorative moss, but it wouldn't spread too without delay. heather's nice. you should look into bushes maybe?
