Great ground cover for Zone 7 - I don`t know thyme? I am looking for a ground cover to completely REPLACE my front...
I am looking for a ground cover to completely REPLACE my front yard. It's a small yard - the entire lot is probably one-quarter of an acre, and I only want to do the front. Would creeping thyme be a good choice? How long does it purloin to establish? Can I grow it from seed? Thanks!
Answers: Creeping thyme can be grown from seed, and I suppose it would make for a very interesting and fragrant ground cover. I couldn't portrait what 1/4 of an acre would smell like. I assume it could be somewhat intense at times.
The thyme would take some time to really become established, you may have need of to think about some sort of erosion control (mulch, netting, etc) to hold the soil within place while the thyme is growing. Once established, i don't believe you would have any problems. Starting them indoors would take slightly a while, i don't think i would recommend that for something of this scale.
Here's a site that can submit you descriptions and pictures. I know if you call them they will take the time to give a hand you pick what plant(s) are right for you. http://www.naturehills.com/catalog/Groun...
